NYC Day 3 – Hot Dogs

Yes, I eat hot dogs and I love them! Hot dogs are the quintessential New York City vendor fare, and you can find them on just about every block. Ketchup, mustard, relish, kraut, and everything in between helps each dog become a unique treat for its partaker. Hot dogs can be a bit scary though. Animal parts and chemicals are not exactly an appealing selling point.
Thankfully, you can easily find hot dogs now that are uncured and free of sodium nitrates and nitrites. At Publix, I buy Applegate turkey dogs. These dogs have 40 calories each and 3.5 grams of fat. They have a great flavor and that little “pop” when you take a bite. I love to smother mine in sauteed peppers and onions! Serve on a whole wheat bun and with some Alexia oven fries, and you have NYC on a plate!
