Kid-Created Lunchables

The New Lunchables with Fruit are geared towards parents wanting healthier options for their kids. However, if you take a look at the ingredients for the Grape PB&J Flatbread Sandwich, here is the lengthy list you will find:

Between the hydrogenated/trans fat, the HFCS, the artificial flavors and colors, the added fructose, and the preservatives, just to highlight a few, this is by no means a healthy choice. But just as every child falls prey to marketing and coveting their neighbor’s lunch, my kids also like the idea of a fun, compartmentalized, do-it-yourself lunch. We created our own “lunchables” minus the 1,001 ingredients. Here are our portable lunches:

LUNCHABLE #1

  • Uncured ham (Nitrate/Nitrite Free)

  • 2% Sharp Cheddar Cheese

  • Blue Diamond Pecan and Cheese Cheese Nut Thins Crackers (LOVE these!!)

  • Peaches and Raspberries

  • Steamed Broccoli

  • Immaculate Baking Co. Sugar Cookie (Not shown since Joel would eat that first if it were on his plate!)

    LUNCHABLE #2

    • Turkey (Nitrate/Nitrite Free)

    • 2% Sharp Cheddar Cheese

    • Blue Diamond Almond Nut Thins Crackers

    • Dried Mango and Pineapple (Low Sugar)

    • Organic Corn and Peas

    • Dove Dark Chocolate Square

      Whether these are taken to school or eaten at home, you’ve given your kids another chance to fuel their bodies with the proper whole food nutrition rather than heavily processed “food”. If you’re in need of school morning breakfast ideas, check some out here.
