Thanks to my friend Amy for sharing the LivingSocial deal for today! Get a $20 Amazon gift card for $10! This came at just the right time because I need to order our favorite peanut butter- Peanut Butter & Co.’s Smooth Operator.
They have many other wonderful, all-natural flavors too! I always make sure my peanut butter is free of hydrogenated oils/trans fat and that the label reads “peanut butter” rather than “peanut spread” (which is only 90% peanuts).

It’s All in the Name
As I considered the point of this blog, I decided to change the name to Whole to the Core. I wanted the title to encompass all the points that I want to include as I discuss a healthy lifestyle. From eating nutriously, to staying physically active, to feeding your mind and soul through God’s Word, I hope all these aspects lead to a wholeness for anyone who reads this blog. I once again am reminded of the greatest commandment- to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And so, my prayer is that you will be all that God desires you to be from the inside out.

Spaghetti and Turkey Meatballs
I love making meatballs because everyone in my family loves them! I make a batch and then freeze the leftovers for spaghetti on another night or for meatball subs. I use store bought sauce (Newman’s Own Marinara for tonight’s dinner) and add a bay leaf and a splash of balsamic vinegar. I also add 2 small jars of baby food to the sauce. It is usually sweet potatoes or squash. It adds a little extra sweetness, and my family gets the additional veggies without even knowing! I serve the meatballs over a bed of whole wheat pasta. Dinner was well received tonight!
Turkey Meatballs
1 lb lean ground turkey
2 Links of Italian turkey sausage (sweet or spicy)
1/4 onion, chopped
1 Medium zucchini, peeled and shredded (this adds some moisture and nutrients!)
1 Tablespoon garlic, minced
1 egg
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup fresh Parsley, chopped or 1 Tablespoon Dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon sea slat
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Preheat oven to 350. Heat 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over medium heat in sauce pan. Add onion, zucchini, and garlic and saute 5-7 minutes or until tender. In a large mixing bowl, combine turkey and sausage. Add sauteed veggies into meat and then the remaining ingredients. Mix well and form into golf-ball sized balls. Place on foil-lined cookie sheets (easy clean up!) and bake for 15 min. This makes about 30 meatballs.

Chicken In Paradise
Thanks to my Uncle Chris, I had a craving for avocado and so I made this simple lunch today…
grilled chicken breast topped with sliced tomato and avocado. The best part is that Joel gobbled it up!

Eating Whole and Clean
I approach eating using a whole or clean foods approach. This truly is a simple lifestyle to understand and follow. Clean/whole foods basically includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes, lean proteins, low-fat dairy, and good fats like nuts and olive oil. I try to avoid processed foods as much as I can. Processed foods are, more often than not, stripped of nutrients and have additives to ensure long shelf-life. I much prefer to keep the nutrients in my body and the chemicals out!
One of my family’s favorite places to go is Whole Foods Market. I love the booklet they put out every other month. The present one has some great ideas on how to eat clean. Check out their Four Pillars of Health and explore some of their other great suggestions too.

Heart, Soul, Mind, & Strength
One of the main reasons I strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle is because, as a follower of Christ, I must be obedient to Jesus’ command to love the Lord with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Lk. 10:27) In order to serve Him and others, I need to be physically able to give Him all that I am. It takes a lot of energy to keep up with all that a woman and/or mom is called to do, whether within her household or within the community. I recently began reading the daily devotionals from the Proverbs31 website, and this particular one titled “Honestly” was the one that catapulted me into finally beginning the blog which I had put off for too long. God spoke, and I listened. I hope you enjoy reading it and find the time to read some of the other posts on there too!
