Visibly Fit™ Change Agent

Michele Terry - Visibly Fit Coach 2019

Many years ago, I began blogging about nutrition, exercise, and Jesus. Maybe you liked my Facebook page, or maybe you signed up for email notifications for when I would post. However you followed me, thank you for reading and staying with me! You may have noticed how my blogs have evolved over time. During the early years of writing, I was diagnosed with uveitis which is an eye disease that can lead to blindness. As I worked with an eye specialist, a local doctor, and began my own research, I slowly made the transition to a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. I originally took oral steroids and methotrexate, but eventually pulled myself off of them and concentrated on nutrition. I believe our bodies are designed to heal themselves when given the right environment. I am grateful for doctors, their expertise and the times when medicine is truly needed to assist our bodies in the healing process. However, I am most grateful that God has blessed us with an abundance of colorful and fun foods that enable the body to combat so many diseases and disorders. When we incorporate the proper foods, exercise, and the feeding of our spirits, God can work a miracle within us!

During this past year, I have worked alongside Wendie Pett and am now a Certified Visibly Fit™ Change Agent. I am thrilled to be able to assist in coaching clients as they seek to become healthy and fully engaged in life. I know you too will LOVE all that Visibly Fit™ represents. Pilates 30 Min Arms

Watch for the special visitor about half way through 🙂

60 Min. Pilates Lesson – Legs

Video #2 – I promise to get better with sounds, lighting, and angles 🙂 Bare with me while I am learning

40 Min. Pilates Lesson

I’m super excited to do my first-ever Pilates lesson on my YouTube channel! I had to cancel this week’s classes since I was out of town. I figured a Smoky Mountain setting was the perfect opportunity to do that “first-ever” video that I’ve been wanting to do. I hope you enjoy the lesson, and I pray that I can do more lessons in the near future ❤

Obese America

Scary Health Facts for Americaoverweightamerica

  • 36.5% of Americans are obese (this is obese only – it does not include those who are overweight).

  • 97 million Americans are effected by obesity-related conditions including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. These diseases constitute the second leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States.

  • $147 billion is the estimated yearly total of obesity-related medical costs in our country.

  • 1 is the number of people it takes to encourage and walk alongside someone in his or her pursuit to change from an unhealthy diet and seditray lifestyle to one of healthy eating and consistent exercise. My prayer is that we can each be that cheerleader for someone or, if we are the one in need of that change, to seek out someone to be that person for us.

Sand Circuit

Our beach day earlier this week turned into a mini-circuit workout for me. I didn’t get my normal morning workout in, and my schedule was a bit frazzled, so I took advantage of the kids’ beach time to squeeze in some exercise. I did a series of 5 full push-ups followed by 20 walking lunges in the soft sand. I ended up with 20 push-ups and 60 lunges and then joined the kids in their sand castle building fun. That ended up with me being a moat digger, therefore I got in a little extra arm workout 😉 So when you don’t think you can get exercise into your day, stay active and keep these things in mind:

  • Take advantage of where you are

  • Take advantage of the time you have

  • Act like a kid

Pilates Certified Instructor…Coming SOON!!!

pilates-postures-positions-thumb6159756

Guess what I did?! I just signed up to receive my Pilates certification! Last week at the RecSpo conference, God spoke to my heart, continued to speak, and confirmed today that this is what He wanted me to do. My certification course via Oklahoma Baptist University will be completed in mid-December, and I will be ready to start classes after the first of the year (and there will be one class every week that will be FREE!) Stay tuned for more details…

Our Travels, Our Food, Our Mission

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen prepping, cooking, and baking. This ensures that my family is being well-fed AND that we are saving money. My reward for all this work is knowing that when we go out to eat, we can do it well. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it does have to be fresh and real. So, on our 2 day excursion to Asheville, we took advantage of our time there. We love to eat, and the following pictures show it.Our favorite spot to visit is Sunny Point Cafe. They specialize in breakfast, but have some great main dishes too. They also grow a number of their veggies in the garden that sits alongside of the cafe (that’s where my “bee on the flower” photo was shot). Scott loves their carrot pancakes (that I did a “remake” of at home), and I love their Ahi tuna burger and their bean and veggie burger. And their local grits with local goat cheese also tops my list.

Shrimp Ceviche from Tupelo Honey Cafe
We also headed to Tupelo Honey Cafe where I ordered shrimp ceviche – excellent flavor and very filling. On our last night there, we tried a new spot for us – Carmel’s. The salad I ordered was loaded with fresh berries, almonds, and goat cheese (there are a lot of goat farms around which is fine with me!). We all know how easy it is to overcook a chicken breast, but this one was super moist. I ate every bite of the entire salad 🙂 After our 6 mile hike, we went to Neo Burrito and I ordered the Spinach Cotija Burrito – rice, black beans, mushrooms, spinach, pesto, cotija cheese, and salsa. Did I mention a salsa bar for all your salsa needs? 20140918-184842.jpg
The Berry Salad with Blackened Chicken from Carmel’s – blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries galore!

Our final destination was Spartanburg for the RecSpo Conference. This event took place in the new Star Center which hosts Upwards Sports. What an awesome facility! The purpose of Upwards is to teach students the skills and sportsmanship of various sports while teaching them about the love of Jesus. And that is in part why we were there. While this began as a trip to earn credit for Scott’s seminary degree, it soon became an event we looked forward to attending since fitness and sports are highly valued by us. And even more importantly, we knew we would be learning how to reach people for Jesus through sports. Our hearts were blessed, contacts made, and prayers begun as we seek to see what God is calling us to do through the recreational activities we are involved in. While I know God has something specific He is calling me to do, and I am seeking Him on this, the one thing He did reveal to me while I was there is that I must be intentional about sharing Jesus with others where He currently has me – schools, ballet, football, grocery stores, and with friends and family. Please pray for me as I head forward with this truth and with whatever it is God is directly calling me to do. I am humbled and excited to see what’s in store for me (and my family)!20140918-184904.jpg
