I posted one of my daily meal plans on www.eatclean.com. This is what I would eat on any given day. Take a look at some of the meal plans that other “clean eaters” have shared to get new ideas on what to eat.

Springing Forward=Afternoon Napping
I do believe that when Ben Franklin decided on implementing daylight savings, he either did not have children or was not responsible for tending to them. Whether springing forward or falling back, the time change always throws me and my children for a loop. I have a feeling that most of us will try to find some time today to sneak in a nap. From improving alertness to providing a mental escape, napping has some great benefits.

Log On Before Dining Out
Ahhh, the weekend! ‘Tis the time to dine out! If I open my menu when we go to a restaurant, my husband often makes a “why are you bothering?” remark. That is because he knows that I already got online and downloaded the menu. My purpose? I am looking for items that are the healthiest picks. I avoid anything fried, served in heavy sauces, and the like. I look for grilled, baked, or broiled lean proteins and find out what side items are available. Most chain restaurants offer you the nutritional information on their selections. I love Outback’s website. They offer a great interactive tool that allows you to choose different items and see the “end result” of your given meal. From the main course to dressings and toppings, you can get a clear idea of just how much you are consuming. If you take the extra time beforehand, you can make dining out a healthy and guiltless experience!

The Longest Run of My Life
I received a text from my sister-in-law the other day asking me if I could run 10 miles with her on Friday. “Sure!” I texted back and then realize that the furthest I’ve ever run was 6 miles (and that not very often at all). I begin to hope that I will actually be able to finish the run since I have not trained for it. Despite that, I accepted the challenge without the assurance of ever having completed that distance. I do know that my consistent running will be the one thing that will help me press through the tough moments that I know will come.
Sometimes life throws a challenge our way that we must face without the proper “training” with which to tackle it. A heart-breaking trial is difficult to overcome, but, just as my consistency in running will help me in completing my longest distance yet, a consistent walk with Jesus can ensure that my hardest struggle in life will be handled with peace and hope. If we neglect our daily walk with the Lord, we are that seed that grew up and was strangled by the worries of the world. (Matt. 13:22) We will face trials- that is a promise from Jesus. Train now for that hardship that will one day present itself. Remain in Jesus and the challenge that you encounter, even though you wonder how you will go on, will be handled through faith, in grace, and with hope. And, at the end, victory through Jesus is oh so sweet!

Eating the Rainbow for National Nutrition Month
March is National Nutrition Month. Whole Foods has teamed up with the American Dietetic Association to promote their Eat Right campaign. This is a 28-day challenge to promote lifestyle changes in eating. You can sign up for a 30-day period and they will provide you with a nutritional analysis of your diet, eating plan, recipes, and more!
The Eat Right campaign is promoting “Eat Right With Color.” One of my favorite ways to ensure that I am eating the rainbow- that is filling my plate with a variety of various colors of produce- is to grill up some veggies. My favorites include zucchini, squash, eggplant, red peppers, red onions, and mushrooms. I simply cut them into bite-sized pieces, drizzle with a little olive oil, add some garlic, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. I toss them into my grill basket and place them along side whatever protein I am grilling at that time. And I always make sure to make extra so I can snack on them the next day.

Tosca Reno and The Eat-Clean Diet
One of my favorite clean eating websites is Tosca Reno’s The Eat-Clean Diet. Tosca is a 50+ year old woman who began to transform her life at the age of 40 by exercising and changing her eating habits. I just finished her book, Your Best Body Now, and enjoyed all the information I gleaned.
Even my oldest daughter, Aleyah, fell went to bed the other night reading it! She told me she was learning some good exercises and she loved looking at the recipes. Take a look at the site and read about Tosca and see all the success stories that have been posted.

Freedom
Most people think of Christianity as a list of dos and don’ts. They see their lifestyle as becoming cramped and boring if they give control of their life over to God. The irony of dying to self and living for Jesus is that one actually finds an unexplainable freedom in living. The freedom from the sin that so easily entangles us allows for one to live without fear and with love. There is no life that is lived more abundantly than the one lived in Christ.
Today a friend of mine said she feels guilty sometimes when she reads my blog. That is not my intention, and I don’t want anyone to ever feel that. I simply share my healthy lifestyle because I love it! While I hesitate to compare eating and exercising to my relationship with Jesus, the freedom that I receive from being healthy is not so dissimilar to the freedom in my Christian walk. This 10- year or so process of changing how I eat and my exercise habits has enable me to feel good physically, emotionally, and mentally. The freedom from food addiction and being consumed with the struggle of losing weight has allowed me to focus on other important things in my life and have the energy to do so. My prayer is that this blog is a helpful and useful tool to help you become healthier. Changing your eating and incorporating daily exercise is NOT an overnight miracle. It is a process and a great learning experience. Enjoy the adventure and encourage someone else to join you on the ride!
This devotional by Lysa TerKeurst offers great insight into the struggle of trying to use food (or any idol!) as a replacement for Jesus. Check it out!

Cycling Saturdays
While I have a million things to be doing today, I could not pass up the opportunity to sneak in a quick causeway run when my car read 72 degrees and there was not a cloud in the sky! It is a gorgeous day here, and I needed to take advantage of it.
While running is my “thing”, it may not be yours. I have never gotten into cycling, but I have family and friends who ride. I know that on any given Saturday morning, many cyclists are out riding and riding far. Here on the Space Coast, we have the Infinity Bike Shop where they specialize in all things related to bikes- from gear to training tips to the Tour de France. So whether you are a hard-core cyclist, training for a tri, or a casual biker, check them out or find a bike shop in your area to get acquainted with fellow enthusiasts and to learn more about the sport.
No matter what your cup of tea may be, I hope you take advantage of this day and do something physical! Enjoy the weekend!!
