Free Gardening Kit from Annie’s Homegrown!

We love Annie’s Homegrown products! I picked up some snack mix and bunny grahams this week from Target (they were on sale!). When I got home later that day, I saw the free offer for a gardening kit with the purchase of 2 of Annie’s products. I am looking forward to digging and planting with my kids very soon!

Chocolate- The Best Superfood Ever!

I subscribe to Dr. Walt Larimore’s blog. He is a doctor who has worked with Focus on the Family, so you may have heard him on the radio. Last week, he posted a very exciting article– dark chocolate has more antioxidant activity than all but one of the super fruits! This is for natural or non-alkalized cocoa. The only downfall is that it is high in fat and calories, so enjoy in moderation!

Kick the Soda Habit & Lose Pounds

Did you know that 1 lb is equal to 3,500 calories? Drinking 2 cans of soda (200 calories each) per day, equals an extra pound every nine days! So if you eliminate those sodas, you can boost you weight loss quickly.  Add in 2-3 extra 30 minute cardio sessions to burn those last 700 calories, and you can drop 1 pound each week. The soda causes weight gain because of its high caloric count, but it also causes weight gain because it leads to overeating. Check out this article on how drinking soda effects your body. Wanting to give up that soda habit? Dr. Oz has a 4 week plan for eliminating that sugar addiction.

Freedom

Most people think of Christianity as a list of dos and don’ts. They see their lifestyle as becoming cramped and boring if they give control of their life over to God. The irony of dying to self and living for Jesus is that one actually finds an unexplainable freedom in living. The freedom from the sin that so easily entangles us allows for one to live without fear and with love. There is no life that is lived more abundantly than the one lived in Christ.

Today a friend of mine said she feels guilty sometimes when she reads my blog. That is not my intention, and I don’t want anyone to ever feel that. I simply share my healthy lifestyle because I love it! While I hesitate to compare eating and exercising to my relationship with Jesus, the freedom that I receive from being healthy is not so dissimilar to the freedom in my Christian walk. This 10- year or so process of changing how I eat and my exercise habits has enable me to feel good physically, emotionally, and mentally. The freedom from food addiction and being consumed with the struggle of losing weight has allowed me to focus on other important things in my life and have the energy to do so. My prayer is that this blog is a helpful and useful tool to help you become healthier. Changing your eating and incorporating daily exercise is NOT an overnight miracle. It is a process and a great learning experience. Enjoy the adventure and encourage someone else to join you on the ride!

This devotional by Lysa TerKeurst offers great insight into the struggle of trying to use food (or any idol!) as a replacement for Jesus. Check it out!

Lemon Walnut Chicken for a Flat Tummy

My husband is off camping with the youth group, so the kids and I had my in-laws over for dinner tonight. I made a new recipe from Fitness Magazine’s Flat Ab Diet.

Lemon Walnut Chicken

The Lemon Walnut Chicken was delicious! I changed it up a bit by grilling the chicken and then making the topping on the stove. I also grilled zucchini, scallions, and mushrooms in my grill basket, and then threw some peach and plum halves on there too. I made a greek yogurt and honey topping for the grilled fruit. My father-in-law had never had grilled peaches, and he loved them. My kids loved the yogurt topping! Check out the other recipes in this diet. The shrimp and avocado rice bowl looks delicious too.

Cycling Saturdays

While I have a million things to be doing today, I could not pass up the opportunity to sneak in a quick causeway run when my car read 72 degrees and there was not a cloud in the sky! It is a gorgeous day here, and I needed to take advantage of it.

While running is my “thing”, it may not be yours. I have never gotten into cycling, but I have family and friends who ride. I know that on any given Saturday morning, many cyclists are out riding and riding far. Here on the Space Coast, we have the Infinity Bike Shop where they specialize in all things related to bikes- from gear to training tips to the Tour de France. So whether you are a hard-core cyclist, training for a tri, or a casual biker, check them out or find a bike shop in your area to get acquainted with fellow enthusiasts and to learn more about the sport.

No matter what your cup of tea may be, I hope you take advantage of this day and do something physical! Enjoy the weekend!!
